Prior to the Friday, May 31 evening rush hour, we plan to open a new segment of the roundabout near the Henderson Bridge to provide a direct connection to North Broadway. This change will utilize the old Henderson Expressway and is the final leg of the roundabout to open. Next week, to continue bridge deck demolition at the old Henderson Bridge, we need to close East River Street/River Drive, from Waterman Street to Angell Street, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please follow signed detour. Shoulder closures and lane narrowing are also expected for drainage and curbing operations on Waterfront Drive, from Waterman Avenue to the roundabout, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Daytime sitewide shoulder closures for fiber optic cable installations are scheduled Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This includes work from the Pell Bridge to West Main Road via Coddington Highway and on Coddington Highway near the West Main Road intersection. Paving the final layer of asphalt on the shared use path, finalizing the now dead-end section of Halsey Street, and loaming and seeding and project clean up sitewide will also continue.

Providence Street Bridge, West Warwick

Earlier today (Friday, May 31), we placed concrete on the new bridge structure. The concrete will cure for approximately 14 days, after which we will proceed to installing sidewalks and parapets. The Providence Street Bridge carries 10,500 vehicles per day on Providence Street (Route 33) over I-295. The bridge was built in 1968 and we are using accelerated bridge construction methods to replace it. An extended weekend closure in late summer will take place to demolish the old structure and move the new bridge into place.
