Interstate Highway Restrictions

Washington Bridge & I-195, East Providence/Providence

Bypass lanes for I-195 West traffic from East Providence to Providence remain open. This temporary traffic pattern allows three lanes of travel eastbound and three lanes of travel westbound – all operating on the eastbound Washington Bridge. Expect delays.

Providence: On the ramp from I-95 North to I-195 East (Exit 36A), left lane closed in a moving operation for traffic device installation, Sat. (July 12), 4:30 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.  

Providence: I-195 East and West, from I-95 to South Main St., up to two lanes closed for bridge preservation work, Tues. night, 9 p.m.-4 a.m.

Providence: I-195 East, from Exit 1A to Exit 1B/C, and I-195 West, from the Potter St. overpass to the Gano St. on-ramp up to two lanes closed for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Providence: I-95 North motorists are using a new traffic pattern after the Downtown exit and near Providence Place Mall with a newly relocated Exit 38, about one mile south of its former location. RIDOT has posted numerous signs to guide motorists to their destinations.

Providence: I-95 at the Exit 37 interchange will be temporarily closed for bridge demolition work, Sat. night (July 12), 11:30 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Providence: I-95 at the Exit 37 interchange, various ramps will be closed and reopened when no longer needed for guardrail installation and paving, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 11 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Providence: I-95, from Exit 36B to Exit 39A, alternating lane closures for paving and barrier installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Cranston: All travel lanes on I-95 North and South at Route 10 have shifted to the right through 2026.

Providence: I-95 at Eddy Street, all lanes will be narrowed and shifted to the left on I-95 North and South at this overpass, located near the Thurbers Ave. (Exit 35) interchange for bridge work until further notice.

Temporary Road Closure

Warwick: I-95 South at East Ave. will be closed for steel beam placement, Thurs. night, 11 p.m. – 5 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Overnight

Hopkinton: I-95, from Exit 4 to Exit 7, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Tues. night, 9 p.m. – 3 a.m.

Providence/Cranston: I-95, from Park Ave. to Thurbers Ave., alternating lane closures for barrier installation and bridge construction, Fri. night (July 11), and Sun. – Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 at East Ave., alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Sun. – Wed. nights, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 at East Ave., two left lanes closed for bridge construction, Thurs. night, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 North, from Exit 24A to Exit 27, right lane closed for survey work, Mon., and Tues. nights, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 under Rte. 37 East, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Mon, Wed., and Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

Continuing

Cumberland: I-295, over Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), at the Mendon Rd. Bridge, travel lanes reduced from three to two for bridge work.

Warwick: I-95 North, from Exit 24B to Exit 27, lanes have shifted to the right for road widening through June.

Warwick: The on-ramp to I-95 North from Rte. 113 (East Ave.) will be closed through the fall. Follow signed detour.

Other Limited Access Highway Restrictions

Reconstruction of Route 146 (Lincoln/North Smithfield)

North Smithfield: A lane split is in place on Rte. 146 North just before the Sayles Hill Rd. intersection. Rte. 146 NB through-traffic will continue straight over the new portion of the Sayles Hill Rd. flyover in the left lane. Sayles Hill Rd. traffic, local turns, and wide loads are directed to the right lane. Both lanes continue north through Rte. 146.

Upcoming Traffic Changes

Lincoln: I-295 at Exits 18A/18B to Rte. 146, alternating lane closures for drainage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Lincoln: Rte. 146 North and South service roads at I-295 North and South Exits 18A/B will be temporarily closed for drainage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Lincoln: Rte. 146 mainline, from Exit 8A to Exit 8C, alternating lane closures with intermittent road closures for drainage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146 South service Rd., from #859 Eddie Dowling Hwy. to Sayles Hill Rd. will be closed for bridge construction, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Local access only. Follow signed detours.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146 at Sayles Hill Rd., left turn access restricted for bridge work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

North Smithfield: Sayles Hill Rd East, from Rte. 146 to Iron Mine Hill Rd. will be closed for bridge construction, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146, from Exit 10 to the Mass. line, alternating lane closures for road construction, Sat. (July 12), and Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Continuing Traffic Changes

Lincoln: I-295 North, at the Rte. 146 interchange, lanes remain shifted to the left.

North Smithfield: Travel lanes have shifted at the Rte. 146/Rte. 146A (Exit 10) interchange, with the following changes:

  • Rte. 146 North: both travel lanes have shifted to the right
  • Rte. 146 North, at Exit 10 (Rte. 146A): ramp narrows at the exit from two lanes to one
  • Rte. 146A South, at the off-ramp to Rte. 146 South: travel lanes are narrow

Route 37 Improvements (Cranston/Warwick/Johnston)

Cranston: I-295 in the vicinity of Rte. 37, alternating lane closures for bridge painting, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Cranston: I-295 North, from Exit 3A to Exit 9, alternating lane closures in a moving operation for overhead signage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Cranston: Rte. 37 Exit 1B on-ramp to I-295 North will be closed for paving, Wed. night, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Cranston: I-295 North in the vicinity of Rte. 37, crews will be pouring concrete and paving behind barrier, Mon. – Wed., 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.

6/10 Interchange Project (Providence)

Route 10

  • Rte. 10 South, all lanes shift to the left near the Broadway overpass.
  • Westminster Street off-ramp is temporarily closed.

Affected City Streets

  • Traffic shifted on the Broadway and Westminster St. bridges over the highway.

Project-wide

  • Periodic one-lane closures possible along Rte. 10 and Rte. 6 on off-peak hours, Mon. – Fri.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

Cranston: Elmwood Ave. at the Rte. 10 overpass, lanes will be narrowed and one of the two lanes on Elmwood Ave. southbound will be closed for bridge work until further notice.

Cumberland/Lincoln: All Rte. 99 traffic will shift to the right through the end of the year at the Blackstone River Bridge, carrying Rte. 99 over the Blackstone River.

Providence: All traffic on Rte. 146 under the Hawkins St. Bridge has shifted to the right.

Temporary Exit/Ramp Closures

Lincoln: The on-ramps from Breakneck Hill Rd. to Rte. 146 remain closed for bridge work until further notice. Follow signed detour.

Overnight

East Greenwich: Rte. 4, from the Exit 7 off-ramp to the Exit 7 on-ramp, left lane closed for bridge work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Lincoln: Rte. 146 at Breakneck Hill Rd. Bridge, alternating lane closures for median barrier work, Sun. – Tues. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

North Kingstown: Rte. 4, from Rte. 102 to Oak Hill Rd., alternating lane closures for bridge work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Northern R.I. & Blackstone Valley

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

Burrillville: The Glendale Bridge, carrying Victory Hwy. over the Branch River, between Main St. and Snake Hill Rd., is closed for reconstruction through mid-summer 2025. Follow signed detour.

Burrillville: A temporary traffic signal and alternating traffic on Rte. 7, between Dion Dr. and Reynolds Mill St., is in place to repair a retaining wall through the end of 2025. Seek alternate routes.

Cumberland: We have shifted traffic onto the newly constructed south side of the Mendon Road Bridge on Rte. 122. One lane in each direction will be maintained on the bridge through fall 2025.

Foster: Moosup Valley Road, between Potter Road and the Tyler Free Library, one lane of traffic with alternating direction controlled by a temporary traffic signal through spring 2026 for bridge work.

Lincoln: School St., from Rte. 126 (Old River Rd.) to Main St. in Albion, is closed weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for utility and roadway improvements through the end of the year. Access to local businesses and homes will be maintained. Follow signed detours.

Temporary Road Closure

Foster: Beginning Fri. night, July 11, Rams Trail Rd., between Rte. 6 and Central Pk. will be closed for a bridge replacement through October. Follow signed detours.

Overnight

Cumberland: Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), from Lincoln line to I-295 North ramps, alternating lane closures for paving, Sun. – Wed. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.
